Led by skipper Davis Karashani, Uganda batted first to put on 114/5 Almuzahim Hamzah Saleh picking 42 runs not out. But the Papua New Guinea team fought back strongly to win by 6 wickets after scoring 118/4.

Karashani and Roger Mukasa picked 21 and 12 runs respectively, while Arthur Kyobe failed to score double figures when he settled for 9 runs. Geraint Jones picked 38 runs for Papua New Guinea, while Assad Vala had 24 runs.

The team handled by former Namibia Coach Johan Rudolph will have their last warm up game tomorrow afternoon against Afghanistan at the Sharjah Stadium. Uganda will open against hosts United Arab Emirates on November 15 in the T20 World qualifiers.

Uganda will hope that they put up a better performance than last year when they could only manage 2 wins against Oman and USA.

The team is placed in group A together with hosts UAE, Ireland, Namibia, Canada, Italy, USA and Hong Kong. Before the team left on Sunday, Richard Mwami, the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) chairman staked 50 million shillings if the team makes it among the top six and secure a place for the 2014 World Cup.
