 Soroti municipality is choking with uncollected heaps of garbage. The most affected areas include Soroti Main Bus Park, Soroti Referral Hospital, and some of the sanitary lanes in the town. 

Richard Okalenga, a trader at Soroti Main Bus Park faults the authorities for failing to remove the garbage for over a month. Ibrahim Odit, another trader in Soroti Main Bus Park wonders why the municipality has ignored their pleas to dispose of the garbage. 

According to Odit, the uncollected garbage has polluted the entire neighborhood, which is affecting their operations. Emmanuel Banya, the Town Clerk Soroti municipality, admits the challenge of garbage collection, saying their waste disposal truck broke down a month ago. 

Banya says he has directed all divisions to find alternative means to handle waste management as the truck is repaired. He however, didn't disclose when they expect the truck to get back on the road. 

On Tuesday, Francis Tumwesigye the acting East Kyoga Regional Police Commander led more than 30 police officers to clear garbage from Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, but their efforts hit a snag due to the absence of a garbage collection truck.
 
According to Tumwesigye, the cleaning exercise was part of their wider activities ahead of the police week celebrations on 3rd October 2016.
