Soldier Found Dead in Swimming Pool

A Uganda People's Defense Forces-UPDF soldier has been found dead in the swimming pool at Soroti Flying School. Juma Hassan Nyene, the East Kyoga Region Police spokesperson identifies the deceased as 25-year-old Private Samuel Mugenyi, who was attached to the Artillery Air Defense Regiment in Soroti.

Nyene says Mugenyi's body was found floating in the pool by school cleaners at around 10am on Sunday. According to Nyene, Mugenyi is suspected to have attended a dance party at the school on Saturday night before he was found dead. Our reporter found the music system used at the party close to the pool on Sunday afternoon. 

Nyene says the deceased is suspected to have jumped in the pool after taking some drinks. Ronald Lodiong, the acting Director East African Civil Aviation Academy has not yet commented on the incident as he could neither pick nor return calls from our reporter.

Captain Michael Mingo, the 3rd Division spokesperson declined to comment saying he was out of the region. By the time of filing this story, the deceased's body was still at Soroti Municipal Mortuary awaiting transportation to Bugema Military Barrack in Mbale.
