UPDF Soldier Lynched For Stabbing Civilian

According to the Kamwezi sub county chairperson, Teddyson Niwagaba, Muhwezi was lynched while at a drinking place in Kabugarama trading centre in Rwenyangyi parish at around 01:00am towards Friday morning.

A Uganda Peoples Defense Forces- UPDF solider attached to Wealth Creation Department was on Friday morning lynched by an angry mob in Kamwezi Sub County, Rukiga district.

The deceased has been identified as Lance Corporal Henry Muhwezi, a driver to the Operation Wealth Creation coordinator for Rukiga County, Colonel Kyomukama Kabigumira and a resident of Nyamirima cell, Rwenyangyi, parish in Kamwezi Sub County, Rukiga district.

According to the Kamwezi sub county chairperson, Teddyson Niwagaba,  Muhwezi was lynched while at a drinking place in Kabugarama trading centre in Rwenyangyi parish at around 01:00am towards Friday morning.

The incident occurred at a bar that belongs to a businessman identified as, Ronald Byamukama. Niwagaba says that the incident occurred after Muhwezi developed a quarrel with Byamukama.

The police spokesperson for Kigezi region, Elly Maate says that Muhwezi was lynched after he stabbed Byamukama in the chest using a knife during a brawl.

Maate says that the victim was rushed to Rubaare clinic in Ntungamo district while the deceased breathed his last while being rushed to Bukinda health center III in Bukinda Sub County.

Maate also says that three people who include; Annet Kyarikunda, a wife to Byamukama, Ben Arineitwe and Dickson Arija have been arrested and are being detained at Rukiga police station to help with the investigations. He adds that the body of the deceased is lying at Kabale regional referral hospital for postmortem.

The case is registered at Rukiga police station under file number CRB 198/2018. Colonel Kyomukama could not be reached for a comment as he is sick.
