The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces- UPDF has withdrawn its officers who formed part of the Rwenzururu Kingdom security team

The withdrawal follows weekend clashes in which four people including two UPDF officers, one motorcyclist and one royal guard were killed. Prior to the shooting, UPDF had five officers as part of the security team attached to Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu.

Security at the Palace is now manned by traditional royal guards.

Maj. Ronald Kakurungu, the UPDF 2nd division spokesperson says the resolution was made during a closed door meeting between Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere and the regional security team for East and west Rwenzori. The meeting was held at Buhikira royal palace last evening.

Kakurungu added that Corporal David Idro, one of the UPDF officers involved in the nasty incident on Sunday has been recalled to the 305 battalion at Hima army barracks for interrogation.

Kakurungu is optimistic that the withdrawal will enable UPDF to re-arrange the security protocol extended to the Kingdom.
