Milton Karisa scored in the 46th minute to give Vipers SC a 1-0 win over visiting Platinum Stars FC in a CAF Total Confederations first round tie played at the new St Marys Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.

After a dull first half which saw the home side fail to convert their chances, the Vipers SC team pushed forward and skipper Nicholas Wadada curved in a cross that Karisa scored.

The goal was celebrated by thousands of fans at the Stadium including with Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi and the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga.

The South Africa side tried to re-organise themselves as they occasionally pulled forward. Ntuli Boginkonsi thought he had scored for the visitors later, but his goal was canceled after he was judged to have been in an off-side position before scoring.

Erisa Ssekisambu also missed two clear chances for Vipers SC who played a better attacking game in the second half. Benson Shilongo also missed a clear header with goalkeeper Ismail Watenga to beat, but placed the ball far over.

It was all celebrations after the final whistle as Vipers SC's new Portuguese coach Jorge De Santos jumped in the air. "This is a good start. We need to continue working hard to get positive results," he added.

Platinum Stars coach Calvin Johnson said although they lost the first leg, they need to go back to the drawing board to plan better for the game in South Africa next weekend. "We can also win at home with a big margin," he added.
