Otuke Police are holding Patrick Okwir, 45, a leader in Adyerakonya Church of Uganda for the alleged misappropriation of a donation of Shillings 20 million from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. According to reports, the church leaders reached out to President Museveni on May 18th, 2023 for support to complete their church.

The president fulfilled their request on July 28th through a State House representative. Okwir, who serves as both a leader and member of the construction committee for the Adyerakonya Church of Uganda was the designated recipient of the donation.

However, the funds entrusted to Okwir were not accounted for by the church leaders, raising suspicions of malfeasance. Consequently, Moses Opio, the leader of Adyerakonya Church of Uganda, reported the matter to Adwari Police Post on August 4th, leading to Okwir’s arrest over the weekend.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police spokesperson disclosed that upon his arrest, Okwir was found to have utilized Shillings 12.4 million for his personal gain. A case of theft has been officially registered, and investigations are underway to uncover further details surrounding the incident.
