Guild leaders at Makerere University have launched a fundraising dubbed Save “the Makererean.” The guild President, Robert Maseruka, says their aim is to raise Shillings 1 billion to provide financial support to underprivileged students.

According to Maseruka, an estimated 1,000 students drop out of the university each academic year because of tuition problems. Maseruka explains that they expect to raise money through appeals to Civil societies, Non-Governmental Organizations, Members of Parliament, and influential community members. He also noted that they hold breakfast meetings car washes and raise money from the general public using mobile money.
