Kisoro district local government has finally spared 2.093 Billion Shillings towards upgrading the dilapidated Kyamateke Bridge in Busanza Sub County.

As a result, yet to be identified people in October 2023 burnt part of the bridge in frustration of failure by the district to rehabilitate it. Police led by Charles Okotto, the then Kisoro district police commander arrested Didas Muntuki, Busanza Sub County Chairperson for allegedly inciting locals to burn it. Security authorities also closed the bridge for motorists.
Leaders led by Abel Bizimana, Kisoro District LC5 Chairman and Robert Tukamuheebwe, area Deputy Resident District Commissioner say that the district has already awarded a contract to Geses Uganda Limited to kick off works.
They say that the works are scheduled to spend a period of 12 months, in accordance with contract agreement Peter Nkurunungi, Director of Geses Uganda Limited promises to fulfill the works in time and at an agreed standard. Locals led by Moses Ninyezimana, a lay reader at Busaho Church of Uganda, Buhozi parish in Buhabuura the delay by the district to upgrade it has also suffocated transport and business in the area.
