In a resounding call for peace and justice, the International Ahmadiyya Muslim Lawyers Association, comprising over 900 legal experts spanning 25 nations, vehemently condemned the escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas. Their statement, echoing the legacy of Sir Muhammad Zafarullah Khan, former President of the UN General Assembly and the International Court of Justice, emphasized the urgent need for equitable resolution and safeguarding of fundamental rights.

The association’s impassioned plea, released in the wake of mounting civilian casualties, condemned the unlawful mass killings and war crimes perpetrated in the conflict. While highlighting the historical warning issued by Sir Khan in 1947, the consortium stressed the immediate need to address the rampant violations of international law and humanitarian norms.

Their statement meticulously delineated the harrowing toll of the conflict, citing a death toll exceeding 18,608, with approximately 70% comprised of women and children. Shockingly, over 60% of Gaza’s housing units and school buildings lay demolished or damaged, and vital medical facilities faced relentless attacks, resulting in the closure of 26 out of 37 hospitals and the loss of at least 300 healthcare workers’ lives.

The lawyers articulated deep concern over the besiegement of Gaza by Israeli forces, leading to the internal displacement of 1.9 million people and a dire scarcity of necessities, with 70% of Gaza’s population consuming contaminated water and enduring days without sustenance.

Expressing solidarity with UN agencies and legal experts, the association vehemently condemned violations of the laws of war by Israeli forces, including indiscriminate bombings and intentional targeting of civilians, schools, and hospitals. The lawyers underscored the necessity for a robust response to prevent further egregious breaches of international law.

Urging immediate action, the consortium implored governments worldwide to facilitate an instantaneous, permanent ceasefire, aligning with the sentiments of His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, who advocated for global leaders to earnestly pursue peace efforts.

The association outlined a comprehensive set of urgent measures, including the release of hostages held by Hamas, the cessation of Gaza’s unlawful siege, the provision of humanitarian aid, and the suspension of weapon sales to the conflict’s belligerents. Additionally, they called for robust support for ongoing investigations by the International Criminal Court and the Commission of Inquiry into reported violations since October 7th.

In conclusion, the consortium highlighted the imperative for the immediate cessation of hostilities, urging recognition of the right to self-determination for sustainable peace in the region. Their impassioned plea resonated globally, beckoning world leaders to heed the call for peace, justice, and the sanctity of human life in the face of this devastating conflict.
