A 15-year-old boy has been killed in Kisoro district for allegedly defecating in his neighbor’s pit latrine.
Police in Kisoro district are currently pursuing a couple suspected of the crime. Macklin Nyirangorore and her husband, Amos Niyonzima, residents of Kanyamicucu village, Kirimbiro ward, Kyanika town council, reportedly assaulted Gilbert Niyiduha, a resident of the same area.
The incident occurred on May 4, 2024, around midday when Niyiduha allegedly trespassed into the home of Niyonzima and used their pit latrine. Nyirangorore discovered Niyiduha and became upset over the matter.
She promptly informed her husband, Niyonzima, who, along with some youths, apprehended Niyiduha after he fled the scene. Niyiduha was subsequently assaulted as punishment for using a pit latrine that did not belong to him.
Following the assault, Niyiduha’s health deteriorated, and he was transported to Claresenga Health Centre 3 in Chanika town council.
Unfortunately, he passed away on Tuesday. Elly Maate, police spokesperson for Kigezi region, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased’s body has been taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing, with the case registered at Chanika police station under file number CRB005/2024.
