His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, led a multitude of Muslim faithful at the National Mosque to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

In his address, the Mufti praised Almighty Allah for enabling Muslims worldwide to successfully observe the Holy Month of Ramadan. He also expressed his sorrow for those unable to do so due to ongoing deadly conflicts and wars, resulting in bloodshed, property destruction, and civilian displacement in countries such as Palestine, Sudan, Somalia, Ukraine, and others.

“The situation in Palestine is a humanitarian catastrophe. The senseless killings of children, women, and the elderly, as well as the bombing of health facilities, are beyond comprehension. It is truly genocide against innocent Palestinians,” he remarked.

Additionally, he urged the people of Sudan to seek peaceful resolutions to grievances rather than resorting to force, calling on other countries and governments to address this serious issue.

He also urged Muslims to maintain God-consciousness as they continue their efforts to perform righteous deeds. Furthermore, he expressed gratitude to the Judiciary for ruling against a case filed by LGBT activists and encouraged Muslims to distance themselves from such behaviors.

Sheikh Mubaje also advised Muslims to utilize the Parish Development Model funds provided by the government for poverty alleviation, clarifying that it is not a loan, as recently confirmed by the President. Lastly, the Mufti extended thanks to various embassies, international charities, local non-profit organizations, individuals, and media outlets for their contributions, including donations of food to less privileged members of the community, as well as for providing education on religious practices related to fasting.

He concluded with a special acknowledgment of the President and the entire government for their support of the Muslim community.

Earlier, Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, the UMSC Secretary General, discussed the current state of affairs within the UMSC, highlighting achievements to date and outlining future developments aligned with the ten-year Strategic Developmental plan.

He encouraged Muslim faithful to fully participate in the upcoming National Population & Housing Census exercise in 2024.

His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the Deputy Mufti and the day’s main preacher, encouraged Muslim faithful to continue their pursuit of God-consciousness, intensify personal devotion, display compassion towards one another, respect community religious leaders, and, above all, strengthen unity among themselves.
