Over 50 clerics from the Diocese of Kigezi staged a demonstration in Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district, expressing their outrage over the brutal killing of Living Aryanyikuka, a catechist from Rubira Church of Uganda.

Aryanyikuka went missing on January 15, 2024, after leaving home for Kabale town. His motorcycle, maroon coat, church books, and church money receipt were found abandoned along Kabale-Mbarara road in Rubira village, Kyanamira sub-county.

On January 20, 2024, his body was discovered floating in the waters of river Rwabakazi under the bridge along Kabale-Mbarara highway in Kyanamira sub-county, about three kilometers away from Kabale town near Kyanamira trading center.

On Tuesday, clergy members, including priests, catechists, lay readers, and officials from Kigezi Diocese headquarters, gathered at Rubira Church of Uganda.

They conducted a special Litany prayer, led by Rev. Canon Obed Turihohabwe, Diocesan Dean, Rev. Edward Mwesigwa from St. Phillips Bugongi Church of Uganda parish, Rev. Gad Musimenta from Nyabishabi Church of Uganda parish, and Rt. Rev. Wiliam Rukirande, Emeritus Bishop of Diocese of Kigezi, representing the incumbent Bishop, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna.

Rukirande informed our reporter that the prayers and march aimed to invoke God’s intervention and safeguard the Diocese, as its servants have become targets for killers
