Police in Butebo district are investigating the circumstances, under which a businessman was intercepted, assaulted, and robbed of over Shillings 2 million. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night. The victim, identified as Kabibu Karunguna from Kadoto village in Kakoro Sub County, was a renowned cattle trader.

According to reports, Kabibu was transporting his cattle in a vehicle when he was accosted by two unidentified individuals at Kakoro town council. The attackers posed as security officers and demanded to see a permit. They later assaulted Kabibu physically and coerced him to hand over the money to him before they abandoned him at the scene.

Good Samaritans came to Kabibu’s aid and rushed him to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission. Immaculate Emily Alaso, the Bukedi North Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that no arrests have been made thus far.

She also revealed that the postmortem results indicated severe abdominal trauma as the cause of death. She said that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the identities and motives of the assailants to bring them to justice.
