Five marine police officers who were on an operation to recover the bodies of drowned victims in Lake Victoria have narrowly escaped death. The officers were returning to the shores on Sunday morning after successfully retrieving a body from the Lake when their boat capsized due to strong winds.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, all the five Marine officers who were onboard the capsized boat were rescued alive. “This incident highlights the unpredictable and challenging nature of the lake, demonstrating the risks our dedicated Marine officers face while executing their life-saving duties,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement.

“Our top priority remains ensuring the safety of our personnel and the public during rescue operations and patrolling the waters of Lake Victoria,” he added. He explained that efforts to retrieve more missing bodies from the earlier accident last week are still underway. He expressed gratitude to all the rescuers who participated in the successful retrieval of the missing persons’ bodies and the prompt rescue of the officers. “Their bravery and dedication are truly commendable,” he said.
