According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, more than 854 million people in the world go hungry every day.

It also notes that one child dies of hunger-related causes every five seconds, equating to 16,000 poor and hungry children each day.  Rising food prices may soon tip 100 million more hungry people to the edge of starvation. The prices of wheat, corn, rice, and soy have doubled or tripled in the past three years.

This situation is no different in parts of northern and northeastern Uganda where years of armed turmoil, deforestation and land degradation have led to increased food insecurity.

We investigate the deadly marriage in National Perspective – Poverty and Hunger in Uganda.
