In Sironko district, a mother of four children achieved an impressive feat by scoring 17 aggregates in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams of 2023. Sarah Nafuna, aged 30 and a resident of Mutufu town council sat her UCE examination at Sironko Parents under registration number U2031/047.

In an exclusive interview with our reporter on Sunday, Nafuna revealed that she had dropped out of school in 2010 after becoming pregnant. Nafuna shared that her dreams were momentarily shattered when she got pregnant while in Senior One at Budadiri Girls in Budadiri town council, Sironko district.

“To fulfill my dreams, I joined the Senior One class at Sironko Parents until last year when I sat my Senior Four examinations,” Mrs. Nafuna explained. She urged younger mothers not to give up on their education, emphasizing the importance of seizing opportunities to secure a bright future.

Expressing her joy at passing with a division one, Nafuna announced her plans to pursue the Biology, Chemistry, and Agriculture combination in Senior Five, aiming to fulfill her dream of becoming an agriculturalist in the future. Nafuna currently deals in Agricultural inputs.

Yofesi Malenga, the academic registrar of Sironko Parents and also a district councilor, praised Nafuna as one of the best students in the school and the district in the 2023 UCE results. He highlighted her outstanding performance across various subjects and emphasized her discipline and consistent academic excellence.

Mr. Malenga urged girls who dropped out during the COVID-19 pandemic to return to school and complete their studies for a brighter future. Isaiah Sasaga Wanzira, the director of Sironko Parents and a Member of Parliament representing Budadiri East constituency, expressed his delight with Nafuna’s performance, urging other girls who dropped out of school to take inspiration from her achievement.
