Dr. Ziyad Swalleh Lubanga, Director of Sharia at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC, announced on Sunday evening that the Muslim fasting for the Holy month of Ramadhan will commence on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference held at UMSC Headquarters alongside his deputy, Sheikh Salim Bbosa, Dr. Lubanga informed the Ugandan Muslim community that the crescent had been sighted which signalled the end of Shaban and marked the beginning of Ramadhan -the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar.

“I would like to inform the entire Muslim community in Uganda the crescent of Ramadhan has been sighted this means fasting commences from Monday March 11th 2024,” he said.

Dr. Lubanga also noted that night prayers-taraweh will begin nationwide at 8:30pm throughout this period.

Sheikh Bbosa congratulated Muslims upon reaching this holy month and urged them to be their best selves during it so as to reap its benefits.

“We should ensure good behavior within ourselves and towards others,” he said while advising Muslims to use this time wisely by attending mosque teaching programs and helping those in need.
