In a significant shift, Stanbic Bank has stepped in as the new headline sponsor for the prestigious Entebbe Match Play Golf Tournament, succeeding Uganda Breweries Limited. The three-year sponsorship deal, valued at 500 million shillings, was officially announced during a press conference at Stanbic Bank’s Umoja House branch in Nakasero on Wednesday.

The Entebbe Match Play Golf Tournament, renowned as Uganda’s premier clubhouse knockout competition, had previously been supported by Uganda Breweries Limited through its Singleton beer brand. However, UBL will continue its involvement as the alcoholic beverages partner, still linked to the Singleton brand.

Sam Mwogeza, the Executive Head of Personal and Private Banking at Stanbic Bank, expressed the bank’s commitment to a long-term partnership with the sport. “This partnership is just the beginning of our support for golf,” Mwogeza stated during the launch event.

The announcement was made at a press conference attended by  representatives from Entebbe Golf Club, as well as other sponsors such as Cfao Motors, DStv Uganda, and Uganda Airlines. Jacob Byamukama, the Entebbe Golf Club chairman, conveyed gratitude for Stanbic Bank’s continued generosity, emphasizing their sponsorship for both the Entebbe Match Play Golf Tournament and the Entebbe Golf Open, and also thanks UBL for leaving a legacy to the sport.

“We want to thank UBL who were with us for seven seasons. They are our official alcoholic drinks partner. UBL is still with us during this Challenge, singleton has left behind a big legacy. As we have been developing through the seasons, we’ve been able to grow this brand across the different affiliated clubs in the country. The reach is so far. And Stanbic is also everywhere in the country. Stanbic Bank takeover, will definitely increase the competition on course and a high vibe at the 19th Hole prize-giving ceremonies is anticipated,” he said.

The other tournament sponsors who graced the event, announce additional contributions, including an annual 25 million shillings from DStv and a car from Cfao Motors for the tournament winner.

Furthermore, Uganda Airlines has offered enticing travel incentives, with free tickets to Dubai, Zanzibar, and Mombasa for the winner, runners-up, and second runners-up, respectively.

  1. The tournament, consisting of seven rounds with 64 pairs, kicks off on March 16, with the final round scheduled for October 12. The sponsorship marks a significant turning point for the Entebbe Match Play Golf Tournament, with Stanbic Bank bringing both financial support and a renewed energy to the competition.
