Authorities in Kabale district are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a decomposing body in the ceiling of a house belonging to Rev. Fr. Austin Christmas, the Rushoroza Cathedral parish priest.

According to Edward Orikiriza, the LC1 Chairman of Kabisha Village in Kyanamira sub-county, the body was discovered in Christmas’s house, which is still under construction, in Kabisha village on Sunday evening. Orikiriza reported that since Tuesday, March 5, 2024, a foul odor had emanated from the house. However, locals in the neighborhood dismissed it, assuming it was a dead dog or another animal disposed of there.

On Sunday evening, one of the locals decided to investigate the source of the odor further as it had intensified. The resident was astonished to discover the body hanging by a rope in the ceiling, in an advanced state of decomposition. They immediately alerted church authorities in the area, who in turn notified the police.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased’s identity is yet to be determined. The body was removed and transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
