The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC joint session has impeached Sheikh Abdullah Ssemambo as the Deputy Mufti of Uganda.
The UMSC Secretary General Hadji Abaasa Muluubya Ssekiyivu announced the decision shortly after the joint session meeting held on Thursday afternoon at the UMSC headquarters.
“Forty one out of the 47 members of the joint session voted to impeach Sheikh Ssemambo for contravening the UMSC constitution, when he connived with some people to install him as a Mufti,” Muluubya told journalist
He explained that Sheikh Ssemambo was duly served with an impeachment petition, he acknowledged receipt and responded to the petition electronically to the national chairperson.
The joint session comprises members of the UMSC National Executive Committee and Majlis Ulema-the College of Eminent Sheikhs. Ssemambo’s impeachment follows his installation by a group of Muslims who convened a “special general assembly” meeting held at Ggangu Muslim primary school in Wakiso district.
The group obtained a court order issues by Jinja High Court Judge Faridah Bukirwa Ntambi to discuss the state of Muslim affairs. However, UMSC has since contested the orders for contravening the UMSC constitution.
