A police operation aimed at cracking down on criminals terrorizing residents in Kabale Municipality has resulted in the arrest of 40 suspects.

The operation, conducted throughout Tuesday day and night, targeted several hotspots in Central and Northern Divisions. It was prompted by a surge in incidents involving gangs wielding pangas, assaulting locals, and committing robberies and home invasions.

Gordon Ariho, an employee at Bishop Barham University College Kabale, recounted being attacked by two armed thugs wielding machetes in the early hours of Tuesday morning around 5:00 AM. Ariho had just arrived in Kabale on a GateWay bus when the assailants struck. They inflicted a knee injury on him before fleeing with cash, ATM cards, and a bag containing a laptop.

Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, informed our reporter on Wednesday that the arrested suspects were found in possession of tools used for cutting and breaking into homes. Additionally, two ATM cards in the name of Gordon Ariho were recovered from one of the suspects identified as Aron Byoonanebye.

Notably, among the apprehended individuals is Solomon Musinguzi, also known as Solo, a resident of Karugashe village, Butobere ward, Central Division, Kabale Municipality. Musinguzi is a habitual criminal who has been on the police’s wanted list.

Maate emphasized that the suspects will be brought before the court to face appropriate charges, and similar operations will continue.
