A section of leaders in the Acholi Sub-region has staged a protest walk to the disputed Apaa over what they say are the continuous human rights abuses against residents occupying the area. This comes a week after four people were killed and four others critically injured by unknown assailants in a renewed violence over the contentious land.

The leaders in the region are faulting the security personnel manning the contentious land for failing to offer protection to the locals and ignoring several warnings about illegal armed men intruding on the area. The protest that took place on Saturday was led by the Paramount Chief of Acholi Rwot David Onen II.

Apaa land is claimed by both the Amuru and Adjumani districts while the government contends it is a gazetted East Madi Wildlife reserve situated in Adjumani district.
