Two people suspected of goat theft were lynched and burnt to ashes by an enraged mob in Butebo district Wednesday. One of the suspects has been identified as Muhamed Saronyl Huslyini Koire, a resident of Kalamira village in Busiki county, Namutumba district. The identity of the other suspect remains unknown, pending police investigation.
According to Emily Immaculate Alaso, the North Bukedi Region police Spokesperson, the suspects were apprehended in Nasenyi parish, Kabwangasi sub-county while riding a TVs motorcycle registration number UFQ 023G with a stolen goat.
The residents lynched the suspects and proceeded to burn their bodies to ashes before notifying the authorities. Alaso strongly condemned the vigilante actions of the local residents and cautioned against taking the law into their own hands.
She explained that police had secured evidence, including the burnt motorcycle and the stolen goats, which would be crucial for ongoing investigations. The remains of the deceased suspects were transported to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination.
