The residents of Oleba Town Council in Maracha district are grappling with the death of their LC III chairperson, Apollo Amute. Amute met his death together with an unidentified motorcycle rider around 8 pm on Tuesday near Aroi Health Center IV, along the Arua-Koboko-Oraba road in Ayivu division of Arua city.

A female adult passenger also sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the Arua Regional Referral Hospital. Eyewitness accounts reveal that the accident occurred as Amute was heading from Arua City to Maracha district on his official motorcycle.

Preliminary reports suggest that the accident unfolded as Amute attempted to overtake a trailer on the road, which was headed towards Koboko Town. Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Region Police spokesperson has confirmed the accident, saying she will provide detail once availed by the Traffic department.

Jennifer Driwaru, the Maracha District Woman Member of Parliament, conveyed her heartfelt condolences and described the incident as unfortunate. She emphasized the significant loss that the people of Oleba Town Council and the entire Maracha district have suffered due to Amute’s passing. Driwaru paid tribute to Amute’s contributions to the development of Oleba town council and the district as a whole.

Robert Angupi, the Oleba Town Council Finance and Administration Secretary, says that Amute was returning from a regional training workshop organized by the Microfinance Support Center-Uganda at Tropical Suites Hotel in Arua City, focusing on the Presidential Initiative for Wealth and Job Creation – Emyooga beneficiaries.

Silver Drani, the Oleba Town Council councilor, disclosed that plans are underway to hold a special council session to honor Amute’s memory on Thursday. Drani highlighted Amute’s diligent work ethic and mourned the significant void left by his leadership.
