Nakaseke police are holding a man accused of killing his mother. The suspect is Charles Sserunjogi Etiko, a resident of Kyetume village in Semuto sub-county. He is wanted for killing his mother Leah Kiiza,68, around 4 pm on Tuesday.

Joel Musisi, a resident of Kyetume village says that Sserunjogi picked a fight with his wife Hanipher Nankya following a domestic wrangle, which prompted his mother to intervene after hearing noise from the couple. Musisi explains that Sserunjogi instead turned against his mother and cut off her hand, which resulted in severe bleeding.

According to Musisi, residents tried to rush Kiiza to Semuto Health Center IV  for treatment but she died on the way due to excessive bleeding. After the incident, Sserunjogi attempted to flee but he was apprehended by angry residents and was rescued by the police that took him into custody.

Gideon Byomuhangi, the Nakaseke District Police Commander, says that Sserunjogi is in their custody at Nakaseke Central Police Station in Butalangu town as investigations into the matter are ongoing. Kiiza’s body was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Mijinje village in Semuto sub-county on Wednesday amidst condemnation from mourners over her brutal murder by her own son.
