Luwero Police are holding Grace Namanya, 33, a commercial sexual worker on suspicion of stabbing to death a man following a disagreement over payment for her services. The deceased has been identified as Moses Bakka, 45, a resident of Nankulabye trading center in Bamunanika sub-county, Luwero district.

He was found dead around 10 pm on Sunday night. Bakka was involved in charcoal burning for sale. According to Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, preliminary investigations suggest that Bakka offered Namanya Shillings 4000 for sexual services, but she refused and demanded Shillings 10,000 instead.

An argument ensued, leading to a physical altercation, during which Namanya allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Bakka. Namanya fled the scene, but police managed to locate and arrest her from a hideout in Kikyusa town. Eriab Ssemanda, the area LC I chairperson revealed that Bakka has left behind three children from a previous marriage. This is not an isolated incident in the area.

Last week, there were reports of another couple, William Lugemwa, 45, and his wife Jesca Payesu, 35, residents of Kigavu village in Luwero sub-county, being arrested for the death of their seven-month-old baby, Immaculate Samanya, during a fight over allegations of infidelity. Furthermore, on July 6th Stephen Musisi from Bukomba village in Luwero sub-county killed his wife, Aisha Nalukenge Nagayi, and their two children before taking his own life.

The district reported at least 58 homicide cases in 2022, placing it in the eighth position in the country in terms of the highest number of such cases.
