Locals in Rubanda District are up in arms against the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) for abandoning the repair part of the collapsed Kabale-Kisoro road section at Bwara village Hamurwa town council.

The road section caved in on May 4, 2023, as a result of heavy mudslides.  The road also connects Uganda to the Rwanda border of Chanika and the DR Congo border of Bunagana. UNRA first swung into action and started repairing with the assurance that the works would be completed within a period of three weeks. However, after a week, work was halted, workers went away and equipment was taken.

The remaining part of the road, still open for use, poses a significant safety risk for road users, including pedestrians, school children, and livestock. As daily commutes continue to be difficult, residents urge UNRA to fulfill its promises and quickly resume repairs to ensure safety and accessibility.
